Être, avoir, aller au présent

Level A1

The 3 most useful verbs in French are « être » (to be), « avoir » (to have) and « aller » (to go) at the present tense. And those are exceptions (yeah). So you have to learn them by heart. Don’t worry, it will be easy since you’ll use them all the time!

• Je suis canadienne! (I am Canadian. Feminine form)
• Tu es content? (Are you happy?)
• Il est petit. (He is short.)
• Elle est grande. (She is tall.)
• On est là! (We are here! – casual « we »)
• Nous sommes en vacances. (We are on holiday.)
• Vous êtes heureux? (Are you happy?)
• Ils sont amoureux. (They are in love.)
• Elles sont gentilles. (They are nice.)

For the negation :

• Je ne suis pas content.
• Je suis pas content. (casual, oral)

• J’ai une belle maison. (I have a beautiful house.)
• Tu as un grand jardin? (Do you have a big garden? – casual)
• Il a un chat gris. (He has a grey cat.)
• Elle a une voiture rouge. (She has a red car.)
• On a un chien. (We have a dog – casual « we »)
• Nous avons un vélo. (We have a bike.)
• Vous avez une voiture. (You have a car.)
• Ils ont un enfant. (They have a kid.)
• Elles ont beaucoup d’argent. (They have a lot of money.)

For the negation :

• Je n’ai pas d’argent.
• J’ai pas d’argent. (casual oral)

• Je vais à la plage. (I am going to the beach.)
• Tu vas au supermarché? (You are going to the supermarket?)
• Il va à l’école. (He goes to school.)
• Elle va en Californie. (She is going to California.)
• On va au restaurant. (We are going to the restaurant – casual form)
• Nous allons à la mer. (We are going to the beach.)
• Vous allez au cirque? (You are going to the circus?)
• Ils vont au jardin. (They are going to the garden.)
• Elles vont à la piscine. (They are going to the swimming pool.)

Negative form :

• Je ne vais pas au gym.
• Je vais pas au gym. (casual, oral)
